Cebuano Street Food Takes Center Stage
CEBU, Philippines — Street food was brought to a new level in Cebu last Friday, as foodies of all ages savored the many hawker specials and delights of a new-in-town food market concept.
Dubbed the “Cebuano Street Food Festival,” a crowd of more than 700 savored the many specials and delights of the one-night-only event at the Garden Pavilion of Montebello Villa Hotel, where popular Cebuano street food fare like fish balls, breaded quek quek, siomai and grilled pork and chicken were partaken with gusto by one and all.
Specialties by a curated roster of established Cebuano street food brands – top billed by May’s Barbecue sa Larsian, Sol’s Halo-Halo, Maco Manok, Kuya Jeff’s Siomai sa Tisa and more – didn’t fail to sate the gastronomic fancies of all in attendance.
Specials like the famed “Ginabot sa Velez,” lechon from Carcar, bibingka from Mandaue and torta from Argao also drew its fair share of the crowd.
Conceptualized by Montebello Villa Hotel, the holding of the event was the first of a monthly series which the only garden resort hotel in Cebu aims to host every third Friday of the month.
As food market concepts come, Montebello’s forerunning “Cebuano Street Food Festival” did well in letting Cebuano street food take center stage, leaving many hungry for more. (YRST)
