American Wines

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor S. YNCLINO - The Freeman

American Wines  for Summer Wine is a drink for every season. And no other shop in town knows this better than Bibendum Wines.

With the recent opening of its new home at the 2nd floor of Streetscape at Maria Luisa Road, Banilad last February, Bibendum introduces to the city’s wine enthusiasts the wide spectrum of selections they currently have. They held a wine tasting on May 5, highlighting their American red and white wines perfect for summer.

Some of the American wines that guests were treated to were the Columbia Crest Two Vines Chardonnay Unoaked 2011, Domaine Ste. Michelle Brut, and Chateau Ste Michelle Indian Wells 2012.

The Columbia Crest Two Vines Chardonnay Unoaked 2011 offers fruit-forward apple and melon aromas with hints of lemon zest and vanilla. This light Chardonnay boasts of lush fruit flavors joined by a creaminess on the palate, followed by a lingering, yet crisp finish. The Domaine Ste. Michelle Brut is not too dry or sweet. Having earned 89 points by Wine Spectator, this sparkling wine delivers aromas and flavors of apples and citrus with a light, toasty finish, making it the perfect accompaniment for a wide array of foods. Another premium choice is the Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Merlot 2012, which has ripe berry fruit aromas and is full-bodied with a round, supple finish.

To maintain exemplary quality and ensure optimum storage and holding conditions, Bibendum utilizes refrigerated containers and climate-controlled storage facilities, including Vinecaves. With the enomatic machine at Bibendum Wines, customers can try the wine prior to purchasing. The machine contains eight different kinds of wine. The first taste is free, and the succeeding portions are at a minimal price.

With wines coming from France, USA, Chile, Spain, Australia, and South Africa, to name a few, choosing from perhaps the widest selection in Cebu may seem daunting. For those who simply  not know where to start, Bibendum provides a point system to make the selection process a lot easier. Professional wine critics have been using a simple 100-point rating to score wines, which is the quickest and most convenient way to determine the quality of wine. Bibendum Wines prides itself in having the best wine portfolio at the most affordable prices.

The Streetscape branch also has a small deli with the best sausages, cold cuts, and cheeses from premium shops, Santis Delicatessen. An al fresco area with tables and chairs are available for those who want to enjoy their selection right there and then.

Bibendum also offers the option to have wines delivered at the customers’ doorstep through Food Panda or their website www.bibendumwines.com. Bibendum Wines at Streetscape opens daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. A retail outlet called Bibendum Wine Cellars is also located at Tinderbox, open daily from 11 a.m. to 12 midnight. For product and membership inquiries, the phone number is (032) 261 6777; the website is at www.bibendumwines.com.
