Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

Canon Marketing Philippines had the Cebu launch of the brand's new line of printers and camera models on Wednesday last week. Held at the Quest Hotel & Conference Center, the occasion was attended by representatives of local distributors, industry partners and members of the media.

Attendees got to "road test" the features of Canon's new PIXMA printers and the brand's new PowerShot and mirrorless camera line.

The refillable ink tank features of the new PIXMA G3000, G2000 and G1000 (models which comprise the new PIXMA G Series) was part of the key highlights of the launch, matched with demonstrations of the imaging versatility of Canon's new PowerShot G3 X, G5 X, G7 X and G9 X cameras.

The mirrorless EOS M3 and EOS M10 models (compact camera models that can be fitted with a selection of compatible lenses) were also presented. More information on Canon's new printers and cameras are found at canon.com.ph.

Pope Francis on all avenues of communication: "…a gift of God which involves great responsibility"

Pope Francis' sentiments towards all avenues of communication, including text messages and social networks, was a talked-about topic in various social media channels over the weekend, after posts that quote the pontiff circulated online.

The quote - which reads "[all avenues of communication are] a gift of God which involves great responsibility" - was taken from the pope's message for the upcoming 50th World Day of Communications, set for May 8 this year.

Online reports note that the message was released at around the time the pope was engaged in a private audience with Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook at the Vatican last week.

Other than the "gift of God" quote, sections of the pope's message were also shared by many on Facebook and Twitter, mostly snipped from the part of the message that says: "Emails, text messages, social networks and chats can also be fully human forms of communication. It is not technology which determines whether or not communication is authentic, but rather the human heart and our capacity to use wisely the means at our disposal."

The pope's message further reads: "Social networks can facilitate relationships and promote the good of society, but they can also lead to further polarization and division between individuals and groups." The message in full is at www.vatican.va.

Apple to announce a new iPhone model by March?

Word of Apple gearing up to announce a new iPhone model by March or early April has recently come about.

A report, published by the 9to5Mac website last week, reveals that the company intends to release an updated version of the iPhone 5s - the 4-inch iPhone model introduced in 2013.

The unit is expected to be named "iPhone 5se." It is reportedly deviced for electronic consumers who prefer to use an iPhone with a screen that measures less than 4.7-inches (like the screen size of the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus).

It is still unclear if the rumored "iPhone 5se" will be announced by the second quarter of 2016, but as in similar past scenarios, 9to5Mac's "forecast" about the "iPhone 5se" might just be spot-on.
