CEBU, Philippines - The "Obra Sugbuanon"

Art Gallery and Exhibit was recently held at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol. The exhibit was one of the many activities during the 446th Founding Anniversary of the Cebu Provincial Government.

It took place from August 20 to 22.

The exhibit featured the artworks of the Nueves Art Group, whose members include artists Jose "Kimsoy" Yap, Ariel Caratao, Luis "Lvis" King, Orley Ypon, Jun Impas, Darby Alcoseba, Benji Goyha, Renulo Pautan, Mark Llyod Belicario, Felix Catarata, Crispin Bobier, Emar Lacorte and Randy Plarisan.

Gov. Hilario Davide III led the launching and ribbon-cutting that formally opened the exhibit. Several members of the Cebu Provincial Board were also in attendance.

The two-day art exhibit, under the auspices of the Cebu Provincial Government, was aimed to promote the works of Cebuano local artists. All artworks displayed during the exhibit were up for sale and the proceeds were to fund the establishment of daycare facilities for the children of families situated in areas near the city's garbage dumpsites and in the far-flung barangays of the province.

The name "Obra Sugbuanon" loosely translates as 'Cebuano Work'.
