Infantry Brigade Medical Mission in Compostela

The Philippine Army 1901st Infantry Brigade Ready Reserve, with the 7th Regional Community Defense Group, conducted a free medical, dental and spiritual Civic Action Program at the gymnasium of Barangay Poblacion, Compostela, Cebu, on July 12 with the theme: "Lawas ug Kalag nga Himsug ug Baskug Kalamboan sa Lungsod-Kauswagan sa Nasud" in support of the unit's continuing efforts in promoting the "bayanihan" spirit with other stakeholders.

Free medicines, medical consultations, dental service, eye examinations, legal services, spiritual services like confessions and counseling were just some of the services that were offered to the more than 3,000 individuals from 17 different barangays of Compostela who came to enjoy the free civic action.

Compostela Mayor Joel Quinio, with some town officials, attended the Holy Mass which was said before the start of the civic action. Some military doctors and nurses were deployed at the area with volunteer civilian doctors and nurses from different hospitals and medical colleges, including those from the Department of Health, assisted in rendering free medical services.

A short program was held right after the civic action and Vice Mayor Josephine "Joy" Abing, in her closing remarks, thanked all the military medical staff and civilian volunteers, especially the Brigade Commander, Col. Erik Espina, for the humanitarian action.
