Workshop for children with special needs

CEBU, Philippines – Curative Education, the first of the revolutionary Educare X Workshop Series by Shaping Sophia, is coming to the hilippines as part of their Asia league this August, for a two-part session for children with special needs.

Ms. Becky Rutherford M.S., a core faculty of Beaver Run Camphill Community and Camphill Academy, USA and a therapist of more than 35 years, spearheads the said workshop in Cebu City next month.

"Curative Education: A Unique Response to Special Needs" is conducted in two modules. Module 1 focuses on Autism and Attention Deficit Disorder on August 7 to 9, and Module 2 deals mainly on Down Syndrome on August 14 to 16.

The two modules go from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday to Sunday, at the Alpa City Suites, Hernan Cortes corner F. Cabahug St. Mandaue City.

The workshop fee is inclusive of the workshop, art materials, snacks and lunch.  Course work includes art, movement, and child-development-directed approaches - a fresh perspective on treatment and therapies for children with special needs.

Curative Education envisions that human beings with special needs find their special place in the community for a life that is both fulfilling and meaningful. This is done in very practical ways and approaches through an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to education, therapy, and care of children and individuals with special needs.

Curative Education is used in the Camphill Movement and in more than 100 Camphill communities around the world.  This was developed through the indications of Rudolf Steiner in Anthroposophy, and founded by Dr. Karl Koenig, an Austrian pediatrician.

This is another landmark project of Shaping Sophia whose many initiative centers on bringing education that is honoring and responsive to the whole child.
