A friend in need

Ben was a Grade 5 pupil. He was a studious boy, but naughty too. One time, after their Science class, Ben went around cracking jokes with friends. As soon as their Math teacher entered the classroom, he moved back to his seat. The class started and the teacher began asking some questions to the students.

As the math class continued, Ben could no longer control himself and wetted his pants! He looked around to check if anyone noticed. He imagined what his classmates would be thinking about him.

His wetting his pants would surely be the hot topic in the school! His friends would talk about the incident for years. The girls in the class would never look at him as their friend anymore. His classmates, boys and girls, would never speak with him again. He would become the butt of jokes in the class. Ben’s imagination was going so wild.

The Math teacher noticed a kind of uneasiness in Ben. She was watching him for a  few minutes and saw him in some kind of trouble. Ben also noticed that the teacher watching him and tried to pretend that nothing was wrong.

In his fear of being discovered, Ben felt like his heart was about to stop beating. He silently pleaded to God, “Dear God, You have to help me. In five or ten minutes, I will be discovered. I really need Your help. Please come as my savior.”

The teacher again saw that Ben was uneasy. Upon noticing the teacher looking at him, Ben smiled at her. Ann, one of Ben’s classmates, stood up at the back and asked the teacher is she could go out to get some water to drink. The teacher nodded and Ann rushed outside the classroom with her water bottle.

In coming back, carrying a filled water bottle, Ann passed by Ben and accidentally dropped the water bottle on him. The bottle’s cap opened and all water poured on Ben. Everyone in class was shocked.

The teacher rushed to help Ben. She asked one pupil to get a towel from staff room. Ben’s classmates quickly moved to clean his desk of the water. The teacher asked another pupil to get a pair of gym pants for him to wear until his pants get dry.

What Ben feared would be a cause of ridicule turned out to cause an outpouring of sympathy for him. The teacher called Ann’s attention to be more careful next time. Ann bent her head as she stood silently in a corner.

Ben was so relieved that Ann saved him from great embarrassment before the whole class.  After school, Ben approached Ann and thanked her. Ann smiled and said, “That’s nothing. The same thing also happened to me before.”

The truth was that Ann intentionally spilled the water on Ben in order to cover up his wetting his pants.  Ben was really thankful for what Ann did for him. They became good friends. (kidsworldfun.com)
