CEBU, Philippines - The winners of the "2014 Green Fashion Revolution" intercollegiate fashion design competition were announced last week, on October 18, capping this year's run of the annually held event.

Announced after an exciting and exhilarating fashion show held in the SM City Cebu Trade Hall, the University of the Philippines Cebu emerged as the Champion of this year's fashion design competition - with the Cebu Institute of Technology-University and the University of San Carlos respectively winning the competition's 1st and 2nd Runner-up awards.

First staged in 2012, the Green Fashion Revolution maintained the overall thrust of the annually held activity - testing and challenging the couture design capabilities of Cebu's young designers as steered by the values of the "reduce, reuse and recycle" philosophy.

The participants of this year's competition included students from the different universities in Cebu - who designed and modeled forward-fashion clothes, fineries, bags and accessories that were crafted from recycled and re-purposed materials.

In the weeks that led to the main event, the competition's participants underwent a basic fashion design workshop with Cebuano designer Dexter Alazas. Entries to the competition were also pre-judged to properly screen the best collections - with the pre-judging scores factored in with the scores tallied during the fashion show.

Originally conceptualized by a group of Aboitiz scholars during the Aboitiz Scholars' CSR Summit in December 2011, the annual Green Fashion Revolution is spearheaded by the Aboitiz Foundation.

As an eco-conscientious fashion design competition, it is aimed at providing an opportunity to celebrate talent and creativity that is innate to Cebu's young designers - saying something about how the "reduce, reuse and recycle" philosophy has a place in the ins and outs of the general fashion and design scene.
