Summer Skin Care

Mae Claudine Teves - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - After lounging in the beach or basking under the sun, frizzy hair, uneven skin tone, dull skin, etc. are the common ensuing issues. Skin care is vital in each of the shifting seasons, especially during hot to cold weather. Bringing the skin back to its natural glow and the hair to its natural shine aren't easy. But simple ways can help a lot for surviving the coming change of seasons.

Drink water.

Fluids, particularly water, are necessary in hydrating the body. They also help in detoxifying the body of wastes that are bad for the skin. And water aids in replenishing the lost moisture in the skin after all those summer activities under the sun.

Stay out of the sun.

The hottest part of the day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the same time the most damaging. Staying under direct sunlight for too long means longer exposure to radiation, which is bad for the skin. Doing outdoor activities earlier or in the cooler hours of the day is good precaution.

Apply sunscreen.

Even though sunlight gets a little subtler after summer, applying sunscreen is still a must because ultraviolet rays remains on its full effect, and can still cause major damage to the skin. One thing to remember - Prevention is still better than cure.

Do skin exfoliation.

A body scrub on sun-damaged skin helps gets rid of dead cells, so that then skin nourishment can seep deeper. Exfoliating the skin can help the pores breathe and oxygenate making the body surface feel much smoother. A thing to remember: Only use body scrub with finer grains for less irritation.

Hydrate the hair.

Hair is a person's crowning glory, thus it's important to protect it from long exposure to the sun. Frizzy hair is a typical problem after summer. Using a conditioner that contains coconut or olive oil, or shea butter is good for hydrating the hair. They help to replenish the moisture, as well as soften the hair and decrease the frizz. Leaving the conditioner for at least five minutes before rinsing allows the nutrients to be fully absorbed.

Eat healthy.

Perhaps, the best way yet to rejuvenate the body is by eating healthy foods. Proper nutrition helps a lot in the repair of damaged body cells. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables ensure that the body gets the antioxidants and nutrients that the skin needs to maintain its glow.

True, health is wealth. Furthermore, health can bring beauty, too.
