Embracing contentment

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson, Ph.D. - The Freeman

While he was driving without much thought this relative blurted that this year's Christmas is not the same as that of last year. Last year, he had plenty of money because his mother gave him a share of a lot that was sold. Now, he only could sigh with frustration because he could not buy the things that his children asked him.

I told him that it doesn't matter what state of financial condition that he is in now. What is important is that he is in good health and his family, his family is intact, and he has a roof over his head. I told him that we are much better off compared to the victims of the earthquake in Bohol and that of super typhoon Yolanda.

While we were cruising the busy lane, I could not help but entertained at the back of  my mind that some of us do not acknowledge the kindness and mercy of the Lord. We are too focused on material things and do not count our blessings. We lose focus on what we have. Most of all, we forgot to thank the Lord on His blessings.

Hence, writer Vikki of Maharata, India exclaimed, "A glass is filled for some and for some it is half empty; it depends on how we take things in our life…We should try to overcome our shortcomings, to have a better attitude toward life and people around us. If, we can overcome them, that's well and good…"

Some of us may be focused on material side of life, especially at this time of Christmas Season.  However, writer Joseph P. Martino (copyright) expresses his own view, "Christmas is the time of year to reflect with thoughtful prayer. To cast aside all bad thoughts and habits that you expressed throughout the year…

*Jesus left all of us a message while here on earth, to love, to care. His Words were ever simple, plain, and so very, very clear. Be kind to one another throughout the coming year.

*Christmas is the time of year to spend with young and old. The needy, greedy, and the poor.

A time to love,a time to share. Let us all spread our love around with all our heart and soul. For the love of your neighbors should never turn so cold…"

For me, no matter what state of life we are in, there's nothing like being grateful to the Lord. I believe that thanking the Lord with all the blessings that we received from Him makes us feel bless and fell bliss within our heart.

Hence, an unknown writer exclaims:

" A grateful heart is all that you need to let God know that you are pleased. When you are thankful for things you have been blessed, remember to thank God first before anyone else.

When things turn out the way you want you clasp your hands in gratitude to God whom credit is due. When you're at peace and contented thank God in silence, for no one else in the world could have given you that solace."

MERRY CHRISTMAS!  GOD BLESS US ALL
