As Art Speaks

CEBU, Philippines - Cursory observers wouldn’t be in the wrong in pointing to the standards of visual appeal and aesthetics as the common ground shared by visual artists and fashion designers.

However, to say that visual appeal and aesthetics are the only arenas commonly shared by the two would be wrong, given the fact that both visual art and fashion design are more than just creative genres, but are also collaborations – at times, even conspiracies – between creators and their audience.

This common ground – this space for creative collaboration – is given a distinct twist in ArtSpeak 2013, one of the year’s more distinct and unique art and fashion exhibitions.

Celebrating its opening last October 5 in the Paseo Marina, Ayala Center Cebu, ArtSpeak 2013 gathers the latest masterworks of 12 visual artists and 12 fashion designers based in province, with each talent known for playing an integral role in the adamant troop towards progressive change currently happening within and beyond the region’s creative scene.

Presented by The Freeman Lifestyle and Ayala Center Cebu, the show essentially combines the aesthetic sensibilities of Cebuano visual artists with the design ethos of Cebuano fashion designers, yielding to a truly unique celebration of Cebuano art, creativity and talent.

Highlighting 12 paintings made by Cebu’s on-the-rise and established masters of the arts, each ArtSpeak 2013-showcased artwork is matched with the latest couture creations of Cebu’s top names in fashion, proffering viewers with the truly vast possibilities and potentials inherent in the arena of the arts and in the field of fashion design.

In ArtSpeak 2013, the ideals and standards of thematic contrast, abstract expressionism, impressionism and more are given an inimitable wearable translation, easily pointing to its unique nature as a show that isn’t readily found anywhere else, resulting to a truly unique creative explosion.
