Fight a good fight of faith

Jennifer Gabieta - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - “Always keep the faith,” that’s what cancer survivors believe.

The Cebu Cancer Fight had its 10th anniversary last August 17, 2013 at the Citichurch Lahug Cebu City. They celebrated their success in fighting and surviving the terrible disease – cancer.

Most of us think that it’s the end of the world when we have cancer. We felt pity to ourselves, we tend to isolate ourselves from other people feeling afraid of being rejected and discriminated, and some of us may tend to ask God “Of all the people, why me?”

As human nature, we can’t deny the fact that we often get discouraged especially when nobody is there to back us up. But these amazing survivors fought against those emotions and gloriously survived the trials they had undergone.

“We didn’t have to worry because we know God is our healer,” Jane Pacaide, founder and president of Cebu Cancer Fight, pointed out.

Jane Pacaide is one of the cancer survivors who fought and survived against all odds. She underwent therapeutic cleansing: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

“The big C is not  cancer but Christ,” Pacaide added.

Pacaide founded the Cebu Cancer Fight after she was diagnosed 11 years ago and it is a growing group up until now.

Cebu Cancer Fight helps people who have cancer in dealing and overcoming the fear in all aspects. They also encourage people who lost faith when they found out that they have cancer. And they also have exercises for the survivors.

Zumba for all ages! Cebu Cancer Fight offers exercises to make the survivors physically and mentally fit. They have regular schedules for the exercise; indoor and outdoor activities for all, not just the survivors, to enjoy and have fun.

Despite all odds, they “Always keep the faith.”
