Forget me not!

Jennifer Gabieta - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - “Oh no! I forgot something!” Having problems in remembering important things?

Forgetfulness is a common problem of individuals. It’s not that we have Alzheimer’s disease though, God forbid, but being forgetful is one common human manifestation.

“Being forgetful is normal especially if you are focused on so many things to do,” explains Dr. Clarissa E. Brigoli, Medical Doctor of Talisay District Hospital.

People nowadays are too busy to remember so many things that they tend to forget the important ones.

Being a forgetful person is also an indication of an unhealthy lifestyle, that’s why we have some enhancers or vitamins that can help people get through life’s demands.

“Daily intake of multi vitamins can help reduce the forgetfulness of people,” Dr. Brigoli advised.

But what if you really are a forgetful person and you want to at least buy some enhancers for memory yet you don’t have enough budget? What are you going to do?!

Simple, discipline! Discipline is one important factor you must consider. Being disciplined is not only on being positive with your attitude, it also implies being organized with the important things you must do from the less important things. Well, if you want to try the so-called discipline, you may also want to try these tips that can help you at least remember the important things you need to do.

 1. Organize your thoughts – chaotic thoughts are not good, mentally and physically. It’s not a healthy lifestyle when you let things or problems get you messed up. Organized thoughts can help you think positively.

 2. Don’t play dumb – we all know being forgetful is normal, but when you tend to forget the things over and over again without trying to remedy the situation, it becomes a bad habit. It becomes a habit when you tolerate the situation and you have no intention in fixing it.

 3. Provide a “to do list” notebook – taking down important things in your notebook is one way to reduce the forgetfulness. Segregating the most important things you need to do and the less important things you just want to do.

“You have to note down all the things you have to do for today,” Dr. Brigoli added.

 4. Tell someone to remind you – Don’t be embarrassed to ask someone to remind you. Though you are already an organized person and you already have the things listed in your notebook, it’s still wise if you let someone remind you the things you need to do.

All of us have the capacity to remember the important things in our lives. Though we’re not that perfect to remember it all, but at least we can reduce the possibilities and chances of being forgetful. We may never know, that those important things you forget may be the most memorable moments of your lives and you may regret it at the end. That you totally don’t want that to happen.

Sometimes, our laziness may attack us, but always remember to discipline yourselves in organizing our thoughts and the things that have to be done.
