Child Height Predictor

MOMMY ON BOARD - Kristalle Garcia-Kekert - The Freeman

We are all so eager to know about our child’s growth and what his/her adult height may be. Although there is no proven way to predict a child’s adult height, based on statistic results, it is still very interesting to see if your child has grown over time or isn’t meeting the right height for his/her age. But it is a proven fact that genetic factors, as well as having a good/healthy diet play a huge role in determining your child’s height. So pass the junk and fast food and let your little one grow to his/her full potential!

One popular example is to: Add both the parents’ height in either inches or centimeters then add 5 inches (13 centimeters) for boys or subtract 5 inches (13 centimeters) for girls then divide by two. Most children will reach an adult height within 4 inches (10 centimeters) of this estimation. Another way to estimate a child’s adult height is to double his or her height when your child reaches the age of 2. The reason is that after the age of 2, most children grow steadily at about 2-inches per year until they reach puberty.

There are many formulas that have been accurate in making the height predictor. Others with even more elaborate schemes take into account what month the child was born in, the color of their hair and eyes and even how tall they were at birth. Some even evaluate the goal height using the “boys only” or “girls only” prediction charts. Yes, there are many ways to “predict” your child’s height and though these predictions are only based on scientific ideas, we can only guess.

To make things more complex, your child’s growth may also be influenced by conditions during pregnancy/fetal development. Even being underweight can also influence in poor growth. If a mother had pregnancy complications or health issues, this could also be one reason why a child may have not reached his/her genetic potential for height. Also remember that eating in excess will not help a child grow any taller. Once puberty is complete, the bony growth plates are officially closed and there is no opportunity to get back the missed growth. But on the brighter side, this can be helped if a child is provided with an excellent diet from birth onwards. It’s never too late. Grow, baby, grow!
