The T’s men among us

CEBU, Philippines - Since the founding of its first club in 1922, the International Association of Y’s Men’s Clubs has played a vital role in supporting the programs and aims of Y’s Men International and the Young Men’s Christian Association, more commonly known throughout the world as the YMCA.

Essentially a group composed of vibrant, community-based organizations, different Y’s Men Clubs have taken a hand in seeing to the success of countless youth and cause-oriented programs and activities, driven by the core values which had propelled the YMCA in becoming the world’s largest non-governmental youth organization.

Here in Cebu, the history of Y’sdom dates back to 1928, with the first Y’s Men’s Club in the country taking root within the province’s bounds.

Celebrating its 62nd Regional Convention this weekend, from May 25 to May 26, the gathering stands as a testament to all the good the organization has come to stand for, driven by the discipline, determination and dedication in acknowledging the duty that accompanies every right.

With more than one hundred Y’s Men members hailing from Luzon, Visayas and Mindano taking part in the event, the 62nd Y’s Men’s Regional Convention is the fourth national gathering held in Cebu, with last year’s gathering held in Makati City.

Highlighting a series of talks and discussions devoted to enhancing the implementation of its programs and activities, the gathering also brings different Y’s Men’s Club members together, strengthening the common bond which had inspired them in becoming Y’s Men’s Club members.

The occasion also highlights a plenary session devoted to hearing out various concerns related to the organization’s operational scope, along with an open forum that is primed as a communication avenue where different Y’s Men’s Club members can voice out their concerns.

The 62nd Y’s Men’s Regional Convention also includes the election of Y’s Men Regional Officers as part of its scheduled two-day itinerary, which is set to be followed by the proclamation and induction of newly elected officers.

As a partner of the YMCA, the International Association of Y’s Men’s Clubs continues to stand by the thrust that has driven the YMCA in being an organization that is responsive to the needs of various communities.

With different Y’s Men’s Clubs based in different parts of the country, its core members, along with the strong presence of different YMCA chapters, continue to live up to the YMCA’s goals of empowering the next generation in being the best that they can be.

In celebrating the 62nd Y’s Men’s Regional Convention, the Philippines’ organization of Y’s Men’s Clubs continues to be of service to one and all, proving to be a true partner of YMCA in attaining its ideals and goals.
