CEBU, Philippines - How Margie Sarmiento finds her choice among 2013’s strongest beauty trends.
All thanks to MAC senior makeup artist Owen Sarmiento, I am feeling energized this summer.
During the Mac Technique Beauty Trends update last February 19 at the Cebu City Mariott Hotel, I discovered that despite being famous for its rich hues, MAC also promotes natural beauty.
“MAC’s spring-summer 2013 trends are all about creating beautiful skin. It’s all about celebrating the beauty of the skin,†Owen emphasized. Currently, MAC has four new trends.
Signature Look
The look places a high accent on natural beauty. This is all about beautiful, hydrated skin using natural colors, light brown, and peaches while getting the contoured look and by making a halo around the skin. I have to say, this look certainly represents what’s going on during summer—soft and dewy skin.
Nu-ance
This look presents soft washes of pastels, very romantic with a hint of metallics, like silver, resulting in a futuristic and dreamy look.
Psychedelic
Inspired by the retro looks, Psychedelic trend puts an emphasis on the lower lash line. Owen made an amazing eyeliner job, using an edgy blue tone for the lower eyelid and ended the look with a pink noveau shade for lipstick that became a real highlight against a subtle nude make-up look.
Puri-tan look speaks to my heart as it is all about contouring and highlighting. It does look like an extension of the Signature trend, which presented the model in barely there makeup—soft, natural shading around the eyes with neutral lip color. However, what was added on top was very subtle: the contouring lines were faint, soft, and well-blended while the highlights were done with precision. I love what Owen did on the model. The contouring and highlighting were very subtle—she appeared to be a rock star angel.
There were a lot of new techniques presented, focusing on contouring. Some great tips I learned were: concentrate on the high points of the skin; use a foundation one shade darker than your skin (although most girls would love to look fairer, yet, using a shade darker can actually work on hiding blemishes); and use powder only when you need it.
The common factor in all the looks presented is good skin. MAC’s spring-summer 2013 trend is all about perfect, sculptural makeup, highlighting on the chin, cheeks, nose, and forehead.
Now, I guess I’ll have to master the secret to applying concealer and foundation without spoiling natural beauty. (FREEMAN)
