Dinhi ug didto

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - It’s difficult to ignore the weight of beauty nestled within Dinhi Ug Didto as an exhibit, given how few outdoor art shows of its class can be encountered in the city, and given the distinct message it imparts to viewers.

Celebrating its unveiling last January 16, the photographs of Raul Arambulo and the sculpted works of Raymund Fernandez are the centerpieces of Dinhi Ug Didto, with the show essentially set in bringing significant dimension to the Cebuano ideals of photography and sculpture as artistic mediums.

Not clawing for relevance, Dinhi Ug Didto is glued together by the promise of possibilities, steering art’s transcendence away from the mundane by acknowledging how much Cebu and Cebuano art have grown, as well as illustrating how much more they could at the same time.

In Dinhi Ug Didto, Arambulo’s urban-scape photographs – taken from different parts of the world – are presented in large-scale prints which are positioned next to some of Cebu’s notable developments, with the juxtaposition essentially telling its viewers that Cebu’s growth is comparable to what is happening in other cosmopolitan centers in different parts of the world.

While a literal but meaningful interpretation of Dinhi Ug Didto could be found in Arambulo’s photographs, Fernandez’s sculpted pieces bears a more poetic flair, primed in raising awareness on the possibilities of where art can be installed and found, with pieces which delve into different subject matters, from music to emotions, individuality to faith.

Curated by Estela Ocampo-Fernandez, Dinhi Ug Didto collects the masterfully crafted fortes of Cebu’s long respected talents, yielding to a unique outdoor exhibit the Queen City of the South doesn’t get to witness on a regular basis.

All in all, the show is more than just a collection of masterfully captured photographs and artistically crafted installations, but a hallmark that speaks of art’s prospects and potentials within Cebu’s dynamic and ever changing landscape.

Dinhi Ug Didto will be on exhibit until February 28, 2013 in the Linear Park (located between the Cebu Holdings Center and the City Sports Club Cebu), Cebu Business Park, Cebu. For more information, visit www.cebuparkdistrict.com (FREEMAN)
