High times at Singapore airlines

CEBU, Philippines - Singapore Airlines (SIA), one of the world’s favorite carriers, is rolling out improvements that promise to enhance travel experience.

It all starts even before boarding the actual aircraft.

“With the help of customers, who were involved in the design process of the new lounges, from the initial conceptualization to the testing and evaluation of prototypes, we have built a new SilverKris Lounge that boasts of more seating and refurbished dining areas,” says Marketing Communications and Services Manager Rita Dy.

“Apart from providing customers with an inviting and exclusive contemporary space, the next generation of SilverKris Lounges will meet the changing needs of both business and leisure travelers and better integrate the airport and air travel,” says Philippines General Manager Ranjan Jha. “Many of our customers tell us that the moment they step on board a Singapore Airlines aircraft, they feel an immediate sense of home. We hope to replicate that home away from home experience in our lounges.”

In addition to revamped lounges, SIA, together with design firms, DesignWorks USA and James Park Associates, is updating in-flight cabin products, particularly cabin interiors, lighting, and seating.

First Class promises a unique premium feel. Passengers can expect a revamped seat with utmost comfort via a generous legroom and more privacy in the cabin environment. Business Class offers more comfort in both seating and sleeping positions and additional stowage compartments to cater to the changing needs of the business travelers. Economy Class likewise sees enhancements in headrest comfort and personal area.

Finally, new in-flight entertainment and connectivity will also be introduced. Entertainment offerings include the latest hardware systems with new screen and handset technology, in addition to much more video and audio content

The new In-Flight Connectivity program brings Internet and mobile data services to customers at 35,000 feet. Travelers can surf the Internet, deploy and retrieve e-mails on smart phones and other electronic devices, send and receive SMS text messages with GSM-compatible mobile phones.

“As our customers’ preferences towards entertainment and connectivity options change over time, so must we. Mobile and Internet connectivity capabilities are just the start, enabling our customers to stay connected even when flying. There will be much more investment in the months and years ahead to keep our customers connected,” said Senior Vice President for Product and Services Tan Pee Teck.

Offerings will be introduced progressively, starting in the new Boeing 777-300ERs, which will enter service in this second half of this year, and Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s. (FREEMAN)
