A Sinulog special: Sinulog sale perfect 10

CEBU, Philippines - The crowd, the downpour, the heavy traffic—none of those are enough to keep me indoors during Sinulog season.  Apart from the festivities of this most-awaited party season, another reason to celebrate during Sinulog is the most-awaited Sinulog Sale.  This gives you more reason to stock up on cash during the holidays considering that in Cebu, the Great Sinulog Sale is perhaps one of the biggest there will ever be the whole year round.

 Sometimes, the sale can get a bit too crazy and it can get a bit too difficult to make up your mind on which pieces to buy and which ones to just simply let go.  But given that most items during this season sell for a song, it pays to already have a list in mind.

Here are the top 10 pieces to score during this season of outrageously cheap stuff:

The Metallic Dress. Modern and luxurious, the metallic dress will still be making it big this year coming from its initial fashion explosion last year.  Choose from either sparkling gold and silver to the more muted shades of copper and bronze.  Whatever your pick, you’re sure that this dress will give you a first class ticket to superstardom.

The Leather Skirt. Just recently, I saw one at What a Girl Wants and I was honestly dying to buy it.  The leather skirt has long been considered a fashion staple given its versatility.  Leather is a lovely fabric than can go well from day to night, making it a worthy investment.  If you don’t have one yet, the Sinulog Sale may be the perfect time to grab one to build future looks on.  Like a pair of trusty jeans, the leather skirt will be here to stay.

The Plaid Coat. Sherlock Holmes, anyone? Except that the great detective didn’t exactly don plaid.  Plaid is timely and vintage.  It won’t be going away soon either.  More than that, plaid’s appeal can be rustic and easy.  It definitely deserves not just a special place in a woman’s heart but in her wardrobe, as well.

The Masculine Inspired Blazer. A perfect example would be a Stella McCartney Oversized Masculine Blazer.  If that’s a bit too pricy, there’s no need to worry as there are other cheaper alternatives out there.  The masculine-inspired blazer touches on the male versus female clash brought about by the androgynous trend that was high on the charts last year.  Tough, structured, and clean, this piece wil have you covered from the boardroom to the bar in a snap.

The Oriental Sweater. We already gave you a hint last year.  Oriental elements will be a big trend this year.  With a series of influential designers taking the elements of the Far-East nearer to us, we’re on the way to adding a unique personality on our fashion pieces.  Here’s to the marriage or east and west, traditional and ultra-modern.

The Baroque Dress.  The days of King Louis XIV may be long over but baroque, a type of art that was highly popular during his time has made it all the way into the 21st century.  Bold yet sophisticated, keep the cut simple and restrained while you go all out with the details.  After all, balance is still key here.  Vamp it up with some gold or tone it down with a pair of maryjanes.  Baroque is beautiful.

Peplum Top. Peplum is starting to gain a steady following what with its ultra feminine silhouette and its ability to nicely sculpt a woman’s body into the perfect waste-hip proportion.  Whether you take it out for work or rock it at the coffee shop, no style could be sweeter than this.  Perfect if you pair it with a nice pencil skirt, the peplum top will go a long way.
