Everyday Hero Small Acts of Kindness

- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - You don’t need to die for your country to be called a HERO. You too can be a hero in your own little/simple way. You can help your fellowmen by showing kindness, not just in times of need, but in ordinary days and ordinary situations.

Here are some situations which you can be a hero to somebody who needs help:

•             Share your baon with a classmate who doesn’t have one. Also, pack an extra baon and give it to your classmate who needs it.

•             Offer to share your umbrella with someone on a rainy day.

•             Donate old toys to a children’s shelter. You may include some school supplies, reading materials, clothes, shoes, among others.

•             Help the old lady/man cross the street. Use the pedestrian lane.

•             Stop to help. Volunteer to help elderly people carry their luggage.

•             Teach/tutor someone. Help him/her with his/her homework.

•             Hold the door open for the person behind you.

•             Talk to someone who is lonely. Check up on him/her. Tell a good joke.

•             Help mom/dad with the household chores or do a household chore without being asked.

•             Give your doggie bag to the street kids.

•             Don’t litter. Pick up trash at school or at community areas. You’ll lessen the burdens of the street cleaners and janitors.

•             Pick up an object that has fallen on the floor and hand it over to the owner.

•             Run an errand for someone (teacher, parents, siblings, neighbor, relatives, friends)

You too can change the world…one day at a time.
