Reliving the sunday brunch tradition

- Jen F. Vega - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Oh how we love brunch!

It gives us the license to enjoy Saturday nights without having to kick ourselves off from bed the next morning for that tea & waffle breakfast. The carousers, for one, benefit much from this old dining tradition that originates from Europe, not missing on French toast, the good 'ol omelet and some all-time breakfast favorites of longganiza and fried dried fish and enjoying lunch at the same time. Bottom line, the concept of breakfast and lunch combined is clever!

Quest Hotel & Conference Center (Archbishop Reyes Avenue) through its flagship restaurant Puso Bistro & Bar relives the much-loved brunch tradition every Sunday with its Sunday Brunch Buffet pegged at P499 nett per diner. The day starts at 11:30am.

Wake up to a wide selection of fares carefully crafted by the dynamic kitchen brigade under the leadership of executive chef Antonio Famador, a seasoned chef. Spread across the 300-seater resto are different enticing food stations, namely: dimsum, carving (for the tasty Crispy Pata and Roasted Chicken), tempura, pasta, chow mien, appetizers, breakfast, main dishes and the mouthwatering dessert station with homemade ice cream.

The theme varies every Sunday. It can cover Asian, European, among other cuisines.

One may also order a la carte at Puso. On my visit, I tried their Filipino-themed all-you-can-eat and dug in to that delish steamed grouper which by the way was in demand at that time. But what truly tickled the palate were the dessert specialties of Chocolate Mudpie, Mango Float with Sabayon Foam and the interesting Deconstructed Tiramisu. What a dessert feast!

Chef Antonio, however, mentioned that aside from the sweet treats, Puso's Chili Crabs are to die for, another reason to dine again at Puso aside from the Weekend Dinner Buffet and of course the Sunday Brunch that ends at 2:30pm.

A 50% off discount will be granted to kids from 6 to 11 years old; while the 5 year-olds and below eat for free.  (FREEMAN)
