Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital (Gullas Medical Center) opens department of oral and maxillofacial surgery

CEBU, Philippines - Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital, the university hospital of the University of the Visayas, Located in Banilad, Mandaue City has realized the need to keep abreast with the present trend of Medical Tourism, One aspect the administration observed is the lack of practioners specializing in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Many patients have to go overseas for certain surgical procedures. The very dynamic administration of the hospital, Led by the Gullas Family, is therefore pleased to announce the opening of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, at the Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital. This department may complement the College of Dentistry of the University of the Visayas. The appointed department head Dr. Charles P. Sia, together with his brother Dr. Clifford P. Sia, current staff of the College and Department Head of Dental Medicine at VGMH, and Dr. Joy Cortes, Dean of the College of Dentistry completed the staff. The hospital is optimistic that it can provide excellent service to the community and future training ground for dental students.

Dr. Charles P. Sia, Department Head in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, obtained his license to practice in the Philippines and went to the United States of America to complete the National Dental Board Examinations by the American Dental Association. He then pursued postgraduate training at the Faculty of Dentistry, in the University of Hong Kong obtaining two degrees resulting to the Master in Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His clinical education and training occurred at Prince Philip Dental Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital. Simultaneously, he completed his research on Orthognathic Surgery (Dentofacial Orthopedic Surgery) and Maxillofacial Bone Augmentation/Regeneration.

Just last May 30, 2012, they formally opened their second practice at the Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital. Dr. Charles P. Sia expressed his gratitude to the Gullas administration for his appointment as head of the new department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital provides him with the most modern surgical equipment he needs for his surgical procedures.
