Extended Iphone features not everyone knows about

- Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi -

CEBU, Philippines - The iPhone has long been established as a fully-featured mobile, a gadget which brings the key points of electronic communication, productivity tools and entertainment all in one device.

But as fully-featured as the iPhone is, there are some "functional iPhone aspects" not every iPhone user is aware of.

Here are some of them.

A "Vibra-based" Caller ID System

The iPhone comes with features for people with disabilities (PWD), with nifty bits enhanced to offer functional highlights for visually impaired or hearing impaired users.

Its vibra-based caller ID feature would be one, allowing for the creation of custom vibrations associated with a particular contact in the iPhone's contacts list.

In a way, the feature reinforces the phone's standard caller ID feature, extending its identification procedures/processes beyond requiring users to look at the screen when someone calls.

Clicker Remote Control via the iPhone Headset

The iPhone's headset can be used for something else, apart from using it for handsfree calls or listening to music. It can also be used as a clicker remote control for snapping photos.

For iPhone users who aren't all that comfortable with using the iPhone's default photo clicker button, this proxy clicker remote setup may prove to be a better option in taking snapshots and photos. iPhone users with mini-tripods can benefit from this feature too.

Note: This feature works with Apple bundled/branded headsets for iPhones. May not work with third-party developed headsets.

Screengrabbing/Screenshot-Taking

You don't have to install a screenshot or screengrab app to take iPhone screenshots. iPhone users can simply press the "Home Button" then tap on the "Sleep Button", which would be followed by the camera click sound.

Screenshots would then be automatically saved. iPhone screenshots made quick and easy.

To the Top!

While surfing the net with Safari, iPhone users can directly go to the top of a webpage by simply tapping the top portion of the screen - the one where phone stats like battery status, time, signal strength, etc.

This way, iPhone users don't have to manually scroll all the way back up, after going all the way down. This feature is also functional in Mail, Contacts and other feature-supported apps.

Locating an iPhone's whereabouts

For iPhone users who tend to be… careless in remembering where they left their iPhones last, the Find My iPhone app is a practical app to have.

The app is not exactly an iPhone feature but is something which users have to install (for free). It works with different Apple products, including iPads, iPod touch portables and Mac computer systems.

Users can configure the app to work with a computer, which can "remote control" the iPhone in playing a loud sound even if it was last set on silent mode. The sound helps determine where the iPhone's current location.

The app could also be used to remotely delete or lock data with subscription-services, and it could also be used as a device tracer should a mobile be stolen. Though it has some tracing limits (like when a thief is quick in resetting the stolen gadget, thereby deleting the installed app and its security settings), it's better to have than nothing.

The features and app mentioned here work with the latest iOS 5.1 with the iOS 5.1.1 update. The iOS 5.1.1 is the latest update for iOS-compatible gadgets, and details related to it are available via iPhone Software Update or the Apple website. (FREEMAN)
