Disposable Or Not?

MOMMY ON BOARD - Kristalle Marie Garcia-Kekert -

I am one of the parents who carry a disposable bottle around for my son to use and to be completely honest with you, this isn’t as disposable as I thought it should be. Yes, all what needs to be done is to insert a sterilized liner into the bottle for convenience, which you throw it away once finished. However, the bottle, the plastic ring and the nipple still need washing and sterilizing for the next use. Now, what is so disposable about that? I admit that it is sometimes a bit of a pain and makes no difference carrying a regular plastic bottle around with you. The idea of being disposable is to discard completely after use.

Another downside to the disposable range is that the bottle handles, the same branded ones you use for your baby’s regular bottles, don’t seem to fit onto the disposable unit. This includes ranges of even the most excellent of brands, making it even more inconvenient. Most especially when your baby relies on the handle to hold onto when drinking.

Disposable bottles, on the other hand, make life somewhat easier for some parents. I agree that it is convenient at a family resort/hotel but absolutely not on a long road trip, plane rides or a whole day tour.

The cost of disposable liners in comparison to having a regular bottle is a huge jump, so do we opt to save on time or on money? But if I were given the chance to change its name, I would certainly call it a “Space Saving Bottle” and NOT a true disposable!
