Artworks for a cause
CEBU, Philippines - The Portrait Artists Society of the Philippines Inc., in opening its exhibit anchored on tender mercies, picked a line from one of Afro-American Pulitzer-nominated writer Marguerite “Maya Angelo” Johnson’s works: “When you learn, teach. When you get, give.”
“Art is perhaps the most precious of humanity’s gifts, as it is through the artist’s compassion that charity benefits the most,” says a tagline of the exhibit at the 2nd Level of The Northwing, SM City Cebu.
The exhibit dubbed “Artworks for a Cause” opened last January 27 with the participation of concerned Cebuano artists, Cebu Art Academy, and the mall administration. This is a manifestation of the colorful spirit of cooperation between Cebu artists, as they aim to raise funds for the continued relief and rehabilitation efforts in assisting victims of tropical storm “Sendong” (international code/name: Washi).
Sharing in solidarity what talents they have, the Cebuano artists give from their heart to heal the wounds of disasters. Proof of this is their commitment to donate all proceeds to the said efforts.
Exhibit runs from Jan. 27 to February 3.
