CEBU, Philippines - This 2012, your weapons of mega beautification will be the curling iron and the blow dryer. Believe me. You’ve probably felt this trend coming in since 2011 what with perming becoming such a big hit among the average every day stylista. You see your girl friends, your neighbours, your classmates, your teachers, your officemates, heck anyone sporting tresses that are anything but pin straight.

Rebonding and extra straight hair had its own share of the spotlight for far too long and besides, it has already reached the point wherein it has become a little bit blah and boring. 

The beauty about waves is that it breathes in a sense of being effortlessly youthful and thanks to Sonia Rykiel’s Spring 2012 runway show, we bring back shots of positivity and supreme chirpiness with a dash of wavy tresses just as we open the new year. This will be the hairstyle that’s a mix between the glam 40s and the cool 70s but it’s a mix that’s downright pretty and ultra femme.

The side part that goes with the ‘do is anything but incidental. It’s a deliberate move to add some zest into an otherwise classic do, elevating it to fun, flirty, and Parisian chic with the barette to add a pretty femme detail right at the side.

With 2012 being the year for curls and waves aplenty, here’s your cheat sheet on how to take you from awkward teen-age ‘do to forties bombshell.

1. Apply a blow-dry lotion or a heat protector on damp hair. Run it evenly through your strands by combing your hair with your fingers in swift motions.

2. Add texture from the roots of your hair using a blow-dryer by running your fingers through your hair, lifting the hair to expose the roots, and blasting hot hair towards the scalp.

3. Create a deep side part once the hair is already completely dry.

4. Spritz a curl enhancing spray all over your hair and use a 1-inch curling iron to give your hairs nice, big, natural-looking curls. 

5. Allow the curls to set to room temperature to get the desired shape. Keep your hands off your curls while they are hot.

6. Using a paddle brush, smoothen some kinks in your hair after flipping the hair down to its desired form. 

7. Secure a barette approximately an inch above the right eye to add a dab of sophistication. A hairpin can also do the trick if you want something that’s more low key.
