OMO

CEBU, Philippines -  Alternative Contemporary Art Studio (ACAS) presents “OMO,” the second solo show of University of  San Carlos art instructor and Cebu contemporary artist Nomar Miano at Sacred Heart Parish, 242 D. Jakosalem St.

The show explores the profane and spiritual concept of cleansing through Miano’s soft sculptures carved out from blocks of Perla detergent bar soap (like OMO, a French detergent powder soap) alluding to the clearing of one’s mind and listening to one’s conscience. He has also oil paintings which depict immobile figures with vulnerable characters; toilet room accessories representing the mundane paraphernalia of hygiene and sanitation; and site specific installations signifying bath tubs of disinfection and clothe lines of being washed and dried clean. Each work questions the myth of human rituals and habits of purification. He also proposes a dialogue with the viewers on the practice and concept of purity in a stained world. (FREEMAN)
