CEBU, Philippines - David Koma whipped up the idea of a futuristic tribe in his Spring 2012 collection, forever banishing the notion that spring is all about everything that’s girly and flirty. He played with monochromatic palettes occasionally spiked with hot flashes of pink and turquoise; even going to the extent of playing with textures and bringing together matte and shiny surfaces, plains and prints.

The tribal feel doesn’t stop with the getup, that’s for sure. To complete the look, David Koma’s muses sported what seemed like a ponytail given a new lease on life. Created with geometric precision stemming from eight diamond sections all linked together, the futuristic ponytail is one that will create a look that’s nothing short of striking. Best of all, this is definitely one way to rock the holidays.

Here’s your cheat sheet on how to nab this ‘do.

1. Everything starts with great hair so prep your hair with a good heat-protect spray and smoothing on straight and smooth cream to get rid of kinks and buhaghag. Part your hair in sections and blow dry to lock in the product and to make sure your strands are smooth and straight.

2. Take a diamond section back from the middle forehead, ending a section below the crown and slick it back with some hairspray and a grooming brush. Secure that section with an elastic, tying it two to three times as needed to keep it flat on your head.

3. Create another section from the top of the ear to the side point of the diamond and divide a small section from this to the mid-recession diagonal back.

4. Take a diagonal section to the center back point of the diamond section beginning from the back of your earlobes and create the same thing on the other side.

5. Spritz with hairspray and tightly comb all sections for a seamless geometric effect. The partings and sections should be clean and visible. All sections are tied with elastic and kept flat on the head.

6. Join all the ponytails together towards the center, creating several intersections connecting to a main artery. Spritz hairspray to keep the sections in place.

7. Join the lower sections right at the nape to create a ponytail with the hair left under straight and long.

This ‘do may be a little bit discriminating as this is perfect for girls with ruler-straight tresses that are at least arm-pit or waist-length. Rock this ‘do with jewel tone pieces and a nice pair of hot and happening booties when you’re off to any holiday party.

The futuristic ponytail is sure to evoke feeling that you are one tough woman who cannot be messed around with.  (FREEMAN)
