The FREEMAN at 92 and onwards

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor S. YNCLINO -

Still going strong, as a matter of fact stronger than ever, The FREEMAN celebrated its 92nd anniversary since its founding by the illustrious Don Paulino Gullas. And the paper has kept high until this day the value of responsible and dedicated journalism.

The FREEMAN, celebrating 92 years of existence and seven solid years of great partnership with The Philippine Star, started the celebration with a Thanksgiving Mass by Rev. Fr. Brian Brigoli. After the Mass, Fr. Brigoli blessed the newly-completed MGB Social Hall at the fourth floor of the Star Group of Publications, Cebu Office where the affair was held.

Seen during the anniversary celebration were the bigwigs led by Chairman Jose “Dodong” Gullas with his wife Nena; President Miguel G. Belmonte and his wife Milette; Publisher Juanito V. Jabat; The FREEMAN Vice-Chairman John Vicente Gullas, Dodong’s daughter Joie Gullas Yu, General Manager Melandro Mendoza, Editor-in-Chief Jerry S. Tundag, and from Manila were Pilipino Star Ngayon Finance Head Angie Isidro and The FREEMAN and Pilipino Star Ngayon Credit & Collection Manager Emma Doroteo. Also seen were Lifestyle Executive Editor Marlinda Angbetic Tan, Opinion Editor Quennie Sanchez Bronce, columnist Bobit Avila, Lifestyle contributor Honey Loop and a host of others.

Following the sumptuous lunch, the big bosses Chairman Dodong and President Miguel delivered their respective speeches. After which, the vast number of The FREEMAN employees (some received plaques and cash awards) enjoyed themselves with a program that included singing and dancing numbers till sundown. It was of course, a joyful celebration of The FREEMAN’s 92nd anniversary…and I repeat, going strong till the end of time!
