HighFIVE!

- Jen F. Vega -

CEBU, Philippines - For Cebu Parklane International Hotel, 2011 is the kick off year for undressing the old and putting on the new image as a hotel in Cebu that stands for Cebu.

Parklane need not go far to search for its new identity. In fact, the staff considered this new direction a cool change, without even trying. “Parklane is the brand that will give you Cebuano hospitality. Who else will give you true Cebuano hospitality than us? The hotel is composed of 99 percent Cebuanos while one percent is comprised of employees from different parts of the country who have been in Cebu for quite some time now, and are considered adopted sons and daughters of Cebu,” shared the dynamic GM Cenelyn Manguilimotan.

First off is the room renovation. Parklane commissioned professional photographers to capture Cebu through their lenses. The images – landmarks, heritage sites, festivals, among others – are mounted on each room with corresponding descriptions based on the research gathered by esteemed local history writers and from the Province of Cebu, as well. “We made sure that there’s no repetition. Each room has a different set of photos,” said Manguilimotan. Room accessories that scream “Cebuano” are also added to exude a distinct identity. Currently, they are still in the process of completing the renovation.

On May 15, they launched a culinary gem Kan-anan on the fourth level, the first Cebuano restaurant in a hotel. Cuisines from north to south were put together in one menu to please the palates of both local and foreign diners.

Today marks the 5th anniversary…still, moving forward in downright dedication to showcase Cebu in every nook and cranny of Parklane. Carrying the theme “Awaken the Five Senses”, Parklane wishes to treat its guests and patrons of a feast to the five senses. Foremost, witness (see) the unveiling of the Cebu diorama at the lobby, painstakingly assembled by ProjectBox. Landmarks/tourist attractions and icons from north to south of Cebu are covered – from the diving spots of Moalboal to the zipline attractions in Busay to the charming Camotes Islands. “This is to entice our guests to explore our beautiful province. Also, for the locals to experience our province first than going somewhere else,” explained Manguilimotan. The centerpiece will officially be exposed this 5:30PM.

Dinner is also a taste of Cebu, from appetizer to dessert. They’ll also prepare an interesting drink, a Cebuano concoction. Each dish is described, its roots and preparations, for the diners to appreciate what they’re partaking when they to get to the table.

The celebration is also a showcase of local talents. A repertoire of oldie but goodie tunes and contemporary pieces penned and sang by Cebuanos will be heard during the course of the event.

Later tonight will be the awarding of the hotel’s Top Accounts, the airing of its new 30-second tv commercial which will be used in all promotional tools and collaterals, and the launch of the Parklane jingle and their newest show, “Beyond Borders” which will air in Studio 23. “It (the show) will definitely speak about Cebu and Parklane, and how they are related.” All these activities are put together to make each guest feel the warmth of Cebuano hospitality.

“We have never been this dedicated in promoting Cebu through Parklane. We are dedicated, without even trying, to be the hotel that stands for Cebu. This is our competitive edge,” she concludes.
