The Myth of the Human Body Exhibit

Located at the Neobabylon Building 9, Bayani Road AFPOVAI Taguig City Manila, The Myth of the Human Body exhibit announces its extension here in The Philippines up until December 2011 before moving on to its next destination, Malaysia.

With over 300 real human body parts on display, what makes this exhibit extraordinary is that this experience gives every viewer something to think about in relation to our insides and hopefully, also to the development of future medicines and cures for diseases. The bodies on display are either donated or unclaimed, mainly individuals who hailed from China many years ago.

This phenomenal idea was founded and had successfully begun in Germany by controversial German anatomist Gunther von Hagens, using a process called plastination, a technique used to preserve bodies and body parts, making a specimen permanent, which takes around a year to complete. A video presentation on plastination is available inside the museum, as well for the more curious individuals.

Arranged into seven halls, what caught my eye as a viewer was the display on different types of lungs, ranging from the healthiest to the most cancerous. It’s amazing how direct smoking (and second-hand smoking) or even living in a busy city can create damage to your lungs. Overall, I was amazed on how the decomposition on these parts are terminated only to be preserved to put on display.

This fascinating exhibit is open daily from 10:30AM to 8PM; entrance is P350 per adult (tour guide included) and special prices are available for students and senior citizens.
