Confucius Institute welcomes the Chinese new year with an exhibit and screening of Chinese movies

-

CEBU, Philippines - After successfully showcasing a book exhibit for Chinese New Year in 2010 in Cebu City, the Confucius Institute at the Ateneo de Manila University will again celebrate Chinese New Year in the city, welcoming the Year of the Rabbit. The Institute, in cooperation with the International Studies for Chinese Arts and Ayala Center Cebu, will present an exhibition of Chinese paintings and photos entitled Bridging Past and Future on February 3 to 9 at the Exhibit Area 1 of the Ayala Center mall. Screenings of Mulan and Queen of Cooking will also be held on February 4 to 5 at the Cinema 1 of the mall.

The exhibit will feature Lingnan-style artworks by members of the International Studies for Chinese Arts. The old art of Lingnan-style advocates the importance of nature and life with realistic spirit and resonance, and has continued to create great impact on the contemporary development of Chinese paintings in China and other countries of the world. In the Philippines Master Hau Chiok, who heads the organization, taught for years this style of painting. His coffee table book which embodies 40 years of painting will be made available at the exhibit.

Both the exhibit and the film showing are open to the public free of charge. All are welcome. (FREEMAN)
