Calling all Cebu Young Designers!

CEBU, Philippines - This is the moment the talented Cebu young designers have been waiting for. Clothes for Life, the fashion institution synonymous to glamour and style in Cebu, announced the opening of entries for the Cebu Young Designers Competition 2011. 

Designers between 18 to 30 years old will be chosen through an entry selection and a maximum of six finalists for Fashion and five Finalists for Accessories will be short-listed by a selection panel to compete in this year’s Cebu Young Designers Competition.

Divided into two categories, the Apparel and Accessories Division, finalists are encouraged to render a fashion design creation that has the theme, “Asiatropic Style.”

“The term ‘Asiatropic Style’ endeavors to articulate the elusive spirit of this New Asia, and to encourage the fashion industry to lead the way in expressing this new confidence and character,” read a statement from Clothes for Life.

Because all fashion designs are women’s wear, finalists should provide appropriate undergarments, if necessary, for outfits, which reveal too much body. CFL’s Organizing Committee reserves the right to withdraw an outfit that is deemed unsuitable for public showing.

The contest will be held at SM City Cebu Northwing on April 9, 2011. An international panel of judges in the fields of apparel fashion design and journalism shall be invited by Clothes For Life Organizing Committee to sit on the panel of judges for the Cebu Young Fashion Designers Competition 2011.

Entries must be submitted on February 19, 2011, 5pm to either of these ateliers: Cary Santiago, Protacio, Salvador Malto, and Wendell Quisido.

Among the few who joined Cebu Young Designer’s Competition are Barbie Alvez, the first ever female designer; Lord Maturan, winner of 2009’s CYDC; Andre Chang, and Lory Villareal.

“I’m expecting competitive but wearable pieces this year. New silhouttes!” said Lory, Cebu Young Designers Competition winner in 2009.
