The right cause to party

CEBU, Philippines - The holiday season was undoubtedly filled with parties and happenings, this despite the lack resulting from successive crisis in the previous years. After all, it is inherent in us Filipinos to make the best out of what we have.

So, who said we can’t party with the little that we have?

This year, StudentsOnly Philippines (SOPHI), Inc. organized a talk-of-the-town sold-out party last December 18 which saw the who’s who in Dumaguete’s party scene.

Dubbed as the Midnight After, the venue was the new and hip Labeled SuperClub and Lounge with DJ Jonny U from Manila and other music spinners from Cebu heating up the dance floor. The party is a follow up of the Midnight Call last year, held at El Camino Blanco.

As with last year, the proceeds of this year’s event will be given to a charitable cause. This year, the beneficiary is the Great Physician Rehabilitation Foundation, an organization that provides high quality physical and occupational therapy services to indigents in the hope of capacitating all persons with disabilities.

Chloe Franken, country manager of SOPHI, said that the money raised will initially be used to fund consultation services for a 1-year old baby who was diagnosed with scoliosis.

“We plan on throwing more charity events in the future to help out the local community and to raise awareness for important issues,” said Franken.

“It’s a great way for the company to come together for a good purpose. I hope our efforts will go a long way for GPRehab,” she added.

For her part, Samantha Lampert, US Manager of StudentsOnly, said, “Our Cambridge office supports our Philippines team 100 percent in all their efforts to contribute to the people of Dumaguete,”

SOPHI, Inc. is a US-based company that provides verification services for StudentUniverse.com, the largest online student travel provider in the United States. Its main office is in Cambridge, MA. (FREEMAN)
