When some of the 1969 high school graduates of Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion learned that their favorite speech mentor was in LA, the first thing that Gwen Gutierrez Garcia did was to contact a few of her classmates. Although living the farthest (Toronto, Canada), Cheche Jaromamay Hodgson and hubby Dave flew to California just to see Madam Alino and classmates. From Chicago came Carmenchu Angbetic Alfon (she’s a cousin of Madam Mayen), who fetched Joy Quinones Garcia from Las Vegas and drove all the way to LA, and the rest, Evelyn Gamboa and Evelyn Liao Echavia from neighboring cities. As always, the girls brought with them food for the whole day gathering although Gwen Garcia, with her supportive husband Eugene was gracious enough to open her well-appointed home as venue of their small reunion in Santa Clarita, an hour drive from Marina del Rey where we were fetched by Gwen. Wow, the “girls” were ecstatic, giggling like the typical high school teens while they were reminiscing their days at CIC. They had lots of fun, for sure!
CIC Batch 1982 also had a reunion in Sacramento. The group was headed by Felicia S. Ynclino, who was at the wheels, along with Gidget Lebumfacil, Joy Calomarde Formento and Tina Amper, whom they picked up from San Francisco.
Venue of the three-day reunion was the six-bedroom house of Vida “Guin” Coloyan in Sacramento. Joining the group were: Amelia “Bing” Ceniza Hentschel from Maryland, Dahlia Pilapil Orounke, Rowena Murillo Waller, Mariflor “Iplo” Jumao-as Alviso and their former Arts teacher Ms. Concepcion Lepon Holmes. Reason for the girls to stay at Guin’s house instead of at the hotel was…”we will have exclusive fun and laughter and our food would be all Filipino.” And they all had a wonderful time!
