U-Belt teens battle in Globe talentfest

CEBU, Philippines - October 2 was a red-letter day along the University Belt, as students from the schools lining the area turned out in droves to support their most talented friends at the first-ever inter-school competition called U-Belt Got Talent, sponsored by Globe Prepaid.

The talent showcase featured eleven entries composed of individuals and groups from a battery of participating schools: Adamson University, Far Eastern University, Feati University, La Consolacion College of Manila, Lyceum of the Philippines, Philippine Christian University, Philippine College of Criminology, Philippine Normal University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, San Sebastian College and the Technological University of the Philippines

Leading up to the competition, students from participating schools put their texting skills to use and voted for their favorites, who would go on to represent their schools at the inter-school competition. And on the big day at the Adamson University Theatre, popular Channel [V] VJ JM Rodriguez welcomed the crowd of students and promised them a show to remember.

Performances ran the gamut from singing and dancing to dazzling displays of yoyo skills and even hilarious voice impressions that had the audience roaring with delight. Competition heated up as the judges deliberated who should emerge victorious. The U-Belt Got Talent judging panel featured superstar celebrity judge and Globe Prepaid endorser Vice Ganda, lead singer of popular band Itchyworms Jugs Jugueta, Viva concert producer Bambi Diploma and Globe Convergent Channels head Bunny Aguilar.

Top marks went to yoyo master Reimarc Isaiah Pusing from Lyceum, with the youth bagging the grand prize of P 30,000 from Globe. Adamson student Patrick Valdez took second place with his own spectacular yoyo skills, while voice mimic Alyssa Marie Baid from PNU took home the third-place title. The winners excitedly flocked to the stage, claiming their prizes from Globe top marketing honcho Menchi Orlina who came to join the festivities.

Globe judge Bunny Aguilar explained the company’s support for the U-Belt talent tilt. “Competitions like these are a great way for young people to show their best, and proudly share their natural gifts with the rest of the world.
