Bogo redeemers society's liderazgo

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor S. YNCLINO -

For the last 90 tears, the Bogo Redeemers Society has always had the Awarding and Recognition Night on May 25, a day before the feast of San Vicente Ferrer. And on that night, practically all officers and members of BRS come home to renew friendship and camaraderie.

Founded by the late Judge Wenceslao L. Fernan, the Bogo Redeemers Society, a socio-civic youth organization together with other students and young professionals in Bogo was envisioned to help the youth redeem themselves from the clutches of poverty, ignorance and moral degeneration through education and leadership development.

Ninety years after its founding, the BRS continues to conduct leadership trainings, youth development programs and various community activities to help address the needs of Bogo and the outlying areas.

Years went on and the Bogo Redeemers Society Foundation was born. It was founded by the late Chief Justice and Senate President Marcelo Briones Fernan and other distinguished and prominent Bogohanons. It was formed to provide support and assistance to the various activities of the BRS. It also manages and operates the Judge Wenceslao L. Fernan Memorial Library in Bogo City.

Now, with the leadership of a Fernan’s third generation, Michael Nolasco Fernan as president of the foundation, never stops at anything. With the brilliant idea of a new author, Marlyna Orat Sevilla Villadar to publish a book as a legacy of the BRS, Mike and the other officers of the foundation took a nod without question. And true enough, the book was entitled Liderazgo. Liderazgo actually is the Spanish word for leadership.

Thus, on the 90th anniversary of Bogo Redeemers Society, the book complete and unabridged, was launched and unveiled. This book said Mike, “is a product of the collaboration of many individuals. Like any good undertaking, it needs a person with vision to bring a plan to completion and the willingness to hurdle all challenges that come along the way. And this person is non-other than Marlyna Orat Sevilla Villadar.” Inna, as she is fondly called, had the vision that 90 years of BRS tradition must not go to waste but must be made into a lasting legacy through a commemorative book we now know as Liderazgo.

Kudos to Marylna “Inna” Sevilla Villadar for her propensity and passion to write the book she has been dreaming to do…the Liderazgo, an insightful book about the Bogohanons’ love affair with the Bogo Redeemers Society.

To Marlyna, Mike and the rest of the officers and those who helped make this book possible, congratulations and more power!
