Darling Debutants!

CEBU, Philippines - At Seasons – A Debutant’s show featuring Fashion Council of Cebu (F.C.C.), Philipp Tampus’ black swirling lace gown presentation left no doubt that unbridled creativity is alive and well in Cebu. Add to that Albert Arriba’s pink but not so saccharine architectural gown cleverly appliquéd with circular hardware pieces blurring the boundaries of haute couture by a fashionable mile.

Two pieces of 50s nostalgic ladies of luxury in lavender and purple followed from Philip Rodriguez and Salvador Malto respectively. Appropriately clad in draped and ruffled chiffon and tulle dresses with rhinestone accents and bejeweled ornamentation that were simultaneously endearing and wicked (both showed strapless numbers). Arcy Gayatin’s black sweet-heart strapless ankle grazing dress with bolts of the softest chiffon came in like a gentle breeze, so light albeit solid. Just as Jun Escario’s gunmetal detail on detail gown came sweeping in, both further adding to the chic factor.

In an increasingly predictable fashion climate, the designers’ debutant collection seems to be intent on young girls just having fun. This season Marco Polo Plaza hotel turned a rose-hued runway into a dramatic fashion arena. How to top off the a’la Hollywood factor? A parade of dapper gentlemen in Philip Rodriguez’ menswear, each carrying a long-stemmed rose for the dazzling debutants is the answer. Bravissimo!
