Cebu Province marks 441st anniversary

The Province of Cebu, under the leadership of the first woman governor, Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia, commemorated the 441st Founding Anniversary of Cebu. So elegant was the Governor’s Ball that every guest was in formal attire, not to mention that Gov. Gwen, clad in a formal bustier gown by Philip Rodriguez, was a picture of sophistication.

Highlight of the grandiose anniversary was the “Garbo sa Subo” awarding where His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal was given the Order of Lapulapu, the highest order the Province of Cebu has bestowed on any individual.

Other Garbo sa Sugbo awardees were: Department of Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras for leadership & sustainable development; JG Summit Holdings Chairman emeritus John Gokongwei for entrepreneurship & business development; Norkis Chairman Norberto Quisumbing for entrepreneurship and community development; Sofronio Mendoza for visual arts; USC Professor Resil Mojares for Cebuano literature & history; Ramon del Fierro for education’ and recording artist Dulce for music & performing arts.

The governor also gave citation awards to the CNU, the Cebu Technological University and the St. Benedict Childhood Education Center. The students of the different schools did a splendid performance in songs, dance as the entertainment numbers during the affair.
