CULTURAL CONFLUENCE: Conclave of the Brush

-

CEBU, Philippines - The many untoward incidents that threatened the peace and harmony in our country for the past few years have never been a deterrent to the vibrant activities of the Filipino artist community.

The Cebuano artists have never even let the absence of suitable venues like galleries and museum that can house their artistic outputs diminish their artistic will. The positive attitude of the Cebuanos, and their will to excel in a given field of endeavor are but few reasons for our local artists to continue their quest.

With such intensity and passion, our local artists did not only reap awards and recognitions but also courted the attention and interest of art collectors, art dealers and art promoters around the globe. To this effect, many of our local artists were given the opportunity to exhibit their works in foreign countries like America, Singapore, Luxembourg, Germany and Malaysia. Such privilege of visiting other countries were not only opportunities for them to show the art and culture of the Cebuano people but provided a venue for our artists to experience the traditions, customs and arts of the country they visited.

To help facilitate the continuing linkages between the local, national and international artists community, the ArtportalCebu in cooperation with ArtMalaysia will come up with an art exhibit entitled Cultural Confluence: Conclave of the Brush on September 14-27, 2010 at the SM Art Center Cebu.

The exhibit is aimed at establishing a confluence of art and culture manifested in an art exhibit featuring artists from Cebu, Manila, Davao, Malaysia, Korea and France. It is also aimed at initiating a cultural link with Malaysia, Korea and France, in the hopes of creating a deeper understanding between participating countries, as well as forging friendships among participating artists.     Participating artists for this exhibit  are: Cebu: Arsenio Abella, Antonio Alcoseba, Andrew Barba, Cesar Castillo, Felix Catarata, Pronnie de la Cerna, John Dinglasa, Jason Dy, SJ, Jet Florendo, Roberto Gonzales, Guido Lubanga, Celso Duazo pepito, Fe madrid Pepito, Ritchie Quijano, Karl P.
