Alegre wins Gold in Cebu Goes Culinary

CEBU, Philippines - Alegre Beach Resort & Spa gained the Gold Medal with Distinction award during the Cebu Goes Culinary 2010 besting all other teams from varying hotels and resorts in the Visayas. This year’s Cebu Goes Culinary carried the theme “21st Century Cooking: Balancing Flavors and Sustainability” and the category where Alegre got the Gold Medal with Distinction centered on “traditional cooking with legumes and grains.”

Alegre Beach Resort & Spa Executive Chef Martin Przewodnik and his Chefs de Partie Edgar Rodriguez, Efril Good and Mario Dindo Orque created three entries based on grains and legumes – a tangy Curried Lentil Salad with Chickpeas Mouselin and Mango Salsa as appetizer; an exquisitely prepared Multi Grain and Wild Rice Risotto with Mongo Beans and Lamb Chop for the main course; and a mouth-watering Semolina Mousse Scented with Gallano and Raspberry Flambé.

Chef Martin is Alegre’s open secret. A German national who has resided in Philippines for 17 years, Chef Martin’s cooking is modern and innovative finding inspirations from fruits or vegetables he sees for the first time and concocting imaginative dishes out of them. One of his masterpieces is clay-baked beef, a gastronomic delight that’s very popular among the resort’s guests.

Alegre Beach Resort is a secret paradise tucked in secluded Sogod, 75 kilometers from Mactan Cebu International Airport. Run by world-renowned Martin Przewodnik, Alegre’s kitchen whips up delightful international cuisine.
