CEBU, Philippines - Cebu’s iconic festival now on its third year just couldn’t get better and better, could it?
Music filled the air in Cebu from early afternoon to midnight as it celebrated together with the rest of the world - World Music Day popularly known as Fête de la Musique, last June 19 in Ayala Center Cebu.
Astonishingly, this year’s event surpassed all expectations. It was simply a resounding success with an estimated crowd of 8,000 people strewn around the four stages, three of which had simultaneous performances, prominently set-up in the Ayala Mall - Cebu and the Terraces. Various Cebuano musicians from all genres of music converged for a day to flaunt their artistry in sound, beat, and the use of musical instruments.
Grae raised the curtain in front of Fashion Avenue, followed by PPP Brass Quintet, Womb and Skankin Brews. An hour later, Fronting Linea Italia, performances by PPP String Quartet, Juress, Shuffled, Soulstring, and Chisca were on show. In the vicinity of Top Shop, sounds roar on the beat of Worry Free TV, Hardwood, Zarah Smith, and Who’s Next.
As evening drew, the 2010 line- up heated the screen at the Terraces and boasted a cast of home - grown superstar performers, old and new, led by the University of the Visayas Choir, PPP Youth Ensemble, 50th Airbase Wing Band, Rescue a Hero, Missing Filemon, Sugbuwanon, Cattski, Bethany, and Powerspoonz. Guest performances by Brownman Revival and French DJ, Springmine Disaster offered an added flavor for the evening.
It did not matter what genre of music you are into, you would certainly find something to suit you. The impossibility of Fête de la Musique laid in the fact that it crossed borders across all ages and everything between - music was the language understood by all. It had to be the most musically focused audience. Fête de la Musique Cebu is identified as much by what you saw and woe as what you missed.
Proudly presented to the audience by the Alliance Française de Cebu, the Foundry Publishing, and The Terraces Ayala Center Cebu, Fête de la Musique or World Music Day was co-presented by some of the country’s biggest companies and conglomerates: ABS-CBN, Qatar Airways, ML Kwarta Padala, M Lhuillier, and ML Jewellers. It was backed by the generosity and support of Marco Polo Hotels, NU 107, Studio 23, 97.1 Lupig Sila, Maayong Buntag Kapamilya, Hola Espana!, and Eurocopter. To complete the list were Gastripac, Omega Pain Killer Pro, The Gustavian, Soundballoon, and Yehey.com. PR
