The greatest blessing God has given to me

CEBU, Philippines - I have been serving as an altar boy in Sacred Heart Parish Church for 11 years. Each time I serve, I do so with joy from my heart.

When the parish and the University of Cebu – Main offered to enroll me through a scholarship program, I immediately grabbed the opportunity. 

I had believed that obtaining a college degree would be difficult considering my situation. The parish and UC-Main gave me a chance to continue my studies, which has been my life-long dream. I received support for my school tuition, projects, and I was also given transportation allowance.

Being a Parish Scholar while working is not easy. I needed to earn good grades to maintain my scholarship. I studied hard and joined Circle of Student Chefs, one of the school’s organizations.  The organization enhanced and expanded my knowledge on Hotel and Restaurant Management, which was the course I was taking.

Indeed, God has blessed me. This gift is one that I will treasure all my life. With God’s help, I have found pride and happiness within myself for being able to survive the challenges I encountered. For me, I attained a great achievement: graduating from college, especially because in my family, I am the first to have graduated from college.

I would like to honor Sacred Heart Parish Church, University of Cebu - Main Campus, the Association of Working Scholars, Jemimah Espiritu, Ms. Sheila and Edgar Apawan and my parents who all encouraged and supported me throughout my college years. All of this would not be possible without them. Most importantly, I would like to praise God for His Grace that allowed me to achieve this dream.
