CEBU, Philippines - Do you ever find yourself wondering mid-week on what to do? Do you get bored out of your wits just staring at the ceiling looking for the perfect time to test your mental prowess? Do you think you’ve got the answers?
Then Trivia Night just might be the perfect activity to spend your mid-week summer nights. Trivia night is the latest craze in some of the most popular bars in Manila and also some parts in the US. And Alejandro’s Filipino Resto, Home of the best crispy pata in town, has been holding it every Wednesday night since February 10.
Trivia Night’s main goal is to basically provide entertainment. And also, consequently help people learn a lot of new things. But how does it go about? Trivia Night goes like this: each participating group should be composed of at least 1 person or more. At the beginning of the night, Alejandro’s will ask you if you would want to join trivia night. It is suggested that you make reservations in advance. Each participating group will be given a white board and a white board marker. Every correct answer gives a group one point. At the end of the night, the group who garners the most number of points wins.
Trivia Night questions are about anything and everything under the sun. So the more people in the group, the more heads can contribute. There are four sets every evening. Each set has three categories. And each category has eight questions. Categories are of the most random things and they vary from Hollywood movie stars, gadgets, TV shows, sandwiches, etc. Participants will only be given just a few seconds to write their answer on the whiteboard and then answers are raised once they are told to do so by the host.
The prizes usually are a bottle of vodka or depending on the sponsors for that specific week. The prizes are announced at the beginning of the night.
When asked about Trivia Night, Stacey Cardoso, a frequent customer and member of Team Moss, a two-time winner of Alejandro’s Trivia Night said, “Super duper lingaw siya! The best thing about it kay ang crowd. Lingaw kay competitive. Lingaw kay there is no assurance man gud na madaog mo even if you were able to do it several times na. Plus lingaw kaayo ang mga questions nga manggawas!”
Now if you’re wondering who are the organizers responsible for the ever-growing famous night? Well, the people behind Trivia Night are Jewel Jalandoni (TVPilipinas.com and independentcrowd.blogspot.com website manager), Leica Cruz (an award winning producer and the woman behind iSee Productions and Events Management Inc.) and Alexis Yap (Owner of Alejandro’s and host of Trivia Night).
When asked what he thought of Trivia Night, Alexis Yap shared that he was very open to try such a novelty form of entertainment. Aside from Trivia Night, Alejandro’s already has different kinds of entertainment that would suit different people from different walks of life such as live acoustic bands for Thursday, Friday and Saturday and disco on the first Saturday of every month.
Trivia Night happens every Wednesday because it’s in the middle of the week, a time when people are trying to find something to do. Trivia Night is a good opportunity to provide an alternative kind of entertainment.
