Our Loves through Songs

If ever you’re in my arms again

This time I’ll love you much better…..

I can’t stop singing love songs these days. I sing them out loud, sing them in a whisper, or hum them. Haaah! Well, it is the month of love; nobody can resist its spell.

Love is in the airwaves – radio stations can’t stop playing love songs, too. Listening to these songs, I realize I can relate to some of them. They sing of my experience in love, and I think they tell of yours, too.

Their lyrics recount our different love stories: as husband and wife, as girlfriends and boyfriends, or as friends secretly hoping for more.

Some are ecstatic over their first love:

This will be an everlasting love

This will be the one I’ve waited for

This will be the first time anyone has loved me…

This will be you and me, yes-sir-ee, eternally

Hugging and squeezing and kissing and pleasing

Together, forever, through rain or whatever

Yeh, yeh, yeh, yeh, you and me.

Or contented with their last:

From this moment life has begun

From this moment you are the one

Right beside you is where I belong

From this moment on

From this moment I have been blessed

I live only for your happiness

And for your love I’d give my last breath

From this moment on.

Some loved against their parents’ wishes:

I don’t care who you are

Where you’re from

What you did

As long as you love me.

Others fell for someone adored by the world:

Why do birds suddenly appear

Every time you are near?

Just like me, they long to be

Close to you.

Some found the love long waiting for them:

I was living for a dream, loving for a moment

Taking on the world, that was just my style

Now I look into your eyes

I can see forever, the search is over

You were with me all the while.

But other hearts are still blind:

You just call out my name,

And you know wherever I am

I’ll come running, oh yeah baby

To see you again.

Winter, spring, summer, or fall,

All you have to do is call

And I’ll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

You’ve got a friend.

Some fear they are headed for a break-up:

Cause I’d rather you be mean than love and lie

I’d rather hear the truth and have to say goodbye

I’d rather take a blow at least then I would know

But baby don’t you break my heart slow.

Others only need reassurance:

Don’t go changing, to try and please me

You never let me down before

Don’t imagine you’re too familiar

And I don’t see you anymore

I wouldn’t leave you in times of trouble

We never could have come this far

I took the good times, I’ll take the bad times

I’ll take you just the way you are.

Still others are in perfect bliss:

Saving forever for you, baby

You are the only one

I’ll ever give forever to

Love for a lifetime won’t do, baby

Wanna always stay together

So I’m saving forever for you.

Some of us are getting over lost loves:

After you go, I can catch upon my reading

After you go, I’ll have a lot more time for sleeping

And when you’re gone,

It looks like things are going to be a lot easier

Life will be a breeze you know, I really should be glad

But I’m bluer than blue…

And some of us simply can’t let go:

I’m just a fool who’s willing

To sit around and wait for you

But baby can’t you see,

There’s nothin’ else for me to do

I’m hopelessly devoted to you.

While others are falling in love all over again:

I heard from a friend today and she said you were in town

Suddenly the memories came back to me in my mind

How can I be strong I’ve asked myself,

Time and time I’ve said…

Cause I’m falling in love with you again.

Anything anyone has felt about love has been expressed in a song. The happy and sad moments, and the easy and trying times are preserved in its lines.

Love songs are gospels of the heart. In your happy days or lonely hours, there’s a song that captures your excitement or advises you to move on.

As for me, I’ll keep on singing:

If ever you’re in my arms again

This time I’ll love you much better

If ever you’re in my arms again

This time I’ll hold you forever

This time will never end.
