Red Alert

CEBU, Philippines - With the holidays upon us (Cebu is on extended holiday what with Sinulog still fast approaching), you’re probably looking forward to another round of festivities after Christmas. So please do not settle down and get too comfy. The past collections of designers and retailers shouted in unison after New Year’s parties that ended with a bang most especially at the M.A.C. Red Ball at the Vienna Kaffeehaus Café and Resto. And the season’s must-have is red. In 2010, you’re going to still wear red.… OK, we know what you’re thinking: Every season, it seems, fashion scribes like me are proclaiming, “Red is the new black.” But this time, we’re not talking about the classic version. The hot color has been tweaked: With Marichu Tan, Ren Manabat and Wendell Quisido added feminine ruffles. Philip Rodriguez and Edwin Alba sliced the sleeves off. William Manahan went long, playful and voila, peek-a-boo and the designers like Protacio, Edwin Ao and Edwin Alba obliged with a red tie here or crimson lining there for their menswear. Bravissimo!
