The Aftermath

CEBU, Philippines - In this tough and traumatizing situation caused by extreme rain, this disaster becomes a story of loss and despair to many Filipinos. Typhoon Ketsana, locally known as “Typhoon Ondoy,” washed away homes, killed hundreds of people and left many in shock.

This natural disaster is a terrible reminder of the pain others endure, a pain that easily becomes yours as you see the suffering. This tragedy has opened our eyes to so many things; the solidarity for one becomes a very important aspect. Despite many differences, people come together from near and far to help each other through this traumatic situation.

In the aftermath, during the clean up, we have come to realize that there has to be some ways to prevent these catastrophes from happening over and over again. As a way forward, why don’t we come together to plant trees to avoid landslides and to dispose of waste properly to avoid drainage clogging? After all, there is no harm in doing what is right.

My thoughts go out to those mourning for their loved ones and for those who have lost all their belongings that were washed away by the floods. Bless you all!
