Darling Dresses

CEBU, Philippines - A sizeable amount of Cebu’s who’s who trooped to Mogambo Springs at Plantation Bay, bracing to be enthralled by two lady designers whose fascination focused to the Land of the Rising Sun for their recent collection for Sakura, the resort hotel’s most recent fashion installation. Singaporean Ana Liew packed her bags and headed to our sunny island paradise with shinjinrui chic on her mind.

Ms. Liew’s operative words should be – “don’t mess with success” for she’s getting a lot of attention in her native Singapore as well as other parts of Asia.  Her celeb-fave clingy dresses came reinterpreted with sexy asymmetric cutouts and knit underlays, while jersey bodysuits and ancient Greek-inspired shifts clung to the models’ fab figures. She also offered a number of the tried-and-true draped frocks—from liquid jersey columns to floaty knit tunics—but the juxtaposition with harder elements (her embellishments were Swarovski crystals on polyresin)  made this one of her more sophisticated efforts

New for her were experiments with extremes, in the form of a silk jersey dresses embellished with a shimmery shredded fabric with hard edge styling. Chic samurai warriors she called them with kohl eyes, an upswept coif and knee length leather boots. It wasn’t a collection for the faint of heart, but there were plenty of options for the starlet looking to turn heads (in a good way) on the red carpet made even more gorgeous on lithe and leggy models from M.A.C.>Models Association of Cebu.
