Lean Mean Machine

CEBU, Philippines – Just as we were raving about the uber-success of Globe-trotting at the Northwing, A-List Events and Advertising came up with Mean Machines, a Harley Davidson exhibit with the Easyriders Motorcycle Club in sync with Father’s Day. Consider this: 16 Harley Davidsons on exhibit plus one custom-made trike with a Volkwagen engine. The big bikes were from the personal collection of the Easyriders Motorcycle Club headed by their president, Ed Gonzalez. A more exciting set up, a more convenient time slot (it was a three day exhibit), important faces in the crowd—the tandem of Cybill Gayatin and Kaye Luym had dynamism to its core. The biker outfit collection they showed certainly suggests the modern Dad comes in any form.

The bikes were grouped into three clusters, according to the iconic motorcycle movie in which they appeared. The movies featured were Easy Rider, Wild Hogs and Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man. Each group of bikes were set up against a wide screen playing clips from the movies and showing 360 degree shots of models wearing clothes inspired by the movie.

”This is at most a complete biker outfit collection ever,” observed one in-the-know guest, as the screen flashed hunky model Harold Dee in various clothes and apparels from chic labels like Fox Men, Columbia, Rudy Project, Diego, Cambio, Timberland, Mint, Sledger, Loalde, Royal Elastics, The North Face and Wade. The emphasis, however, was definitely on the bikes, “They’re what people came here for,” the guest added. The clothes however were relaxed and loose, they were cut from sturdy materials and the more fitted silhouettes were crafted from “engineered viscose knits” in dark colors. Interesting to note were the accessories like bandanas, cuffs and belts that made the “biker look” pull through.

Easyriders members Ed Gonzalez, Bobby Aboitiz, Cheling Sala, John Domingo, and Tony Lozada were present at the cocktails, along with guests that included Cebu City First Lady Margot Osmeña, Cebu society ladies such as Teresin Mendezona and Rosebud Sala, motorcycle and automobile enthusiasts such as Kenneth Cobonpue and Bernie Liu, and members of the media. There was also an Easyriders Meet and Greet on June 20 from 4-6pm. Mall goers were given a chance to see the Harleys up close and even got on the bikes to have their photos taken. And that kept the A-listers coming back for more.

The event was for the benefit of the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children.
