Macapagal-Durano fishport Danao's new crowing glory

CEBU, Philippines – The Macapagal-Durano Fishport is a legacy of friendship established by the late President Diosdado Macapagal and the late Congressman Ramon M. Durano Sr. It is funded by the President’s social fund, the Department of Agriculture and Danao City.

The enormous fishport was inaugurated by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on October 22 , 2008. It was constructed by the administration of Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, the amiable father of our dynamic Tourism Secretary Joseph ‘Ace’ Hotchkiss Durano.

I have been to Danao City a couple of times, but when Ace mentioned that I should try the fishport, I said yes, for the love of seafood and adventure.

He told me that the fishport’s foodcourt is a favorite hangout of Danao residents and passersby and added that it is very clean, spacious and relaxing.

A lot of people go there to eat, buy food and to refresh during long journeys.

We opted for the ocean view area for our lunch and enjoyed the sea breeze.

The food court has an array of gastronomic offerings of native dishes that you can choose from like smoked fish (tinapa), panga, beef jerky (kusahus), crabs, shrimps, and more guaranteed to satisfy a grumbling stomach.

The fishport also offers my favorite crispy lechon kawali and the food are sold at very affordable prices.

It is no wonder that you would see families and large groups of friends, who eat there.

At the ground floor, there is also an enormous space where the fresh catch of the day are unloaded from the boats.

It was an added bonus when Mayor Nito dropped by to wish our group well.

The fishport has become a home to the many streetside seafood vendors of Danao City giving them not only a decent place to sell, but a grand venue that the people of Danao are very proud of.

Thank you, Mayor Nito, for your hospitality!
